Summary: Useful and Anachronistic
Comment: I purchased Baton Twirling: A Complete Illustrated Guide as a 40 year old man looking for assistance with (hat and) cane manipulation, about which not much has been written. For the basics it is very useful and the diagrams are quite helpful. I think that more attention could have been paid to the details and nuances of the twirls, i.e. one is told what should happen, but not always how. This notwithstanding, I would certainly recommend this book as it will get you started. As it was written in 1975, it should be noted that there are comments about appearance that are quite anachronistic and not at all in keeping with current social attitudes. Unless a young girl aspires to being a highly competitive twirler where such issues are likely to arise, these comments, particularly the one about weight, should be soundly ignored.
